Eczema helped by Reflexology
Eczema is a term used to describe various skin inflammations. These include; itching, red patches and small blisters that burst. It is either caused by external factors or internal/constitutional factors.
The most common form is an allergic response which appears during babyhood. Reflexology can help eczema by calming the immune system, which subsequently reduces the sensitivity to the foreign substance that has triggered the allergic reaction. It also calms the body, reducing its response to stress, and encourages the flow of blood which clears out toxins from the body.
After 4-6 treatments, at one-weekly intervals, the sufferer should notice a significant improvement in the eczema.
Headaches helped by Reflexology
This study aimed to look at the effectiveness of reflexology on migraine and tension headaches.
Two hundred and twenty patients presenting headaches as their primary problem were treated by 78 reflexologists over a three-month period.
A consultant doctor diagnosed the type of headache before the study began. Patients completed a diary once a month prior to treatment and during the treatment time. Questionnaires were completed by the patient at the beginning and end of the series of treatments, and three months after the end of the series.
Qualitative interviews were conducted at the end of the treatments.
Results: 81% said that reflexology had helped, 19% were unchanged.
Conclusion: Reflexology is able to treat both tension and migraine headaches in a significant number of patients.
Reflexology and feeling run down
The feet are treated during a reflexology treatment, and all the parts/organs/systems of the body are reflected on them; this is also the case with the hands.
The palm of the hand has the same reflexes as the sole of the foot, so there is quite a bit of overlap as it is a much smaller surface area. The lungs are at the top; then the heart is on the left hand and the liver is on the right; below that is the digestive system and the bottom part is the pelvic region.
Amongst these reflex points are different points for the glands, the kidneys, the diaphragm and the solar plexus. This last reflex is found in the centre of the hand and is the network of nerves that serve the abdomen, and is also called your emotional centre.
The solar plexus is the point that a reflexologist holds at the start of a treatment to gauge the client’s general well-being and energy levels.
The client should immediately feel soothed as pressure on this point begins the deep relaxation that takes place during a reflexology treatment. When stressed, it is possible to hold your own solar plexus points on each hand and feel a sense of release.
As this is a key reflex for relaxation, emotional balance and well-being, it is logical that your palms are sore when you are tired and run-down – reflex points are usually tender when they are out of balance. I would recommend a few treatments with a reflexologist that has experience of working with hands; you may notice an improvement after just one.
